In a hotel or residence, the fire alarm must wake and guide people who are asleep, often in a building they do not know. Night staff are few and need to know immediately where an alarm is coming from.
- Pinpointing where a fire starts: guest room, corridor, plant room or kitchen.
- Avoiding nuisance alarms caused by shower steam or cooking fumes, which erode the trust of guests and staff.
